Court Orders Public Hospitals to Establish Lab Departments

The National Industrial Court (NIC) has requested elected and state government claimed wellbeing offices in the nation to make office for therapeutic research center researchers.

The court excoriated the current circumstance where medicinal research center researchers don’t have isolate divisions and were additionally being going by therapeutic specialists.

A similar court had given a comparable judgment in 2013, yet a few clinics declined to maintain the decision, and therapeutic research center researchers backpedaled to the NIC for understanding of its decisions.

While giving the request in two separate judgments on Friday in Abuja, Justice Nkechi Esewe, particularly gave the administration of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) 30 days to agree to the decision or be indicted.

Conveying the principal judgment for the situation between restorative research center researchers and the administration of JUTH, Justice Esewe, noticed that the court could have taken the JUTH administration straight to jail however that it considered their status in the general public and the unfavorable impact it would have on the overall population.

In the second administering which was for a situation between the medicinal research facility researchers and five different doctor’s facilities, Justice Esewe repeated that the restorative lab researchers ought to be permitted to release their obligations uninhibitedly as a particular division without being coordinated by a therapeutic specialist.

The clinics that were respondents for this situation incorporate the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki; University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozala; Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital Nnewi, National Othodepedic Hospita, Enugu and Parklin Hospital Enugu.

Okocha ranked 33 in top 100 best foreign EPL players

Former Super Eagles captain, Austin Okocha, is 33rd on the list of top 100 best foreign players to feature in the English Premier League, according to the ranking by the celebrated football magazine, FourFourTwo.

The attacking midfielder, who represented Bolton Wanderers for four seasons, was one of the foreign players, who added glamour to the EPL during his playing days in England.

According to the magazine, “Okocha almost single-handedly rescued Bolton from relegation trouble in his first season, netting crucial long-range goals and dazzling the Premier League with a string of outrageous skills and showboats that embarrassed a host of opponents.

“For half a season, he wasn’t far from being the best player in the league – even at Bolton,” the magazine said.

During his heydays at Bolton, Okocha won the BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2003 and 2004, and claimed the Premier League Player of the Month in November 2003.

Former Nigeria captain and Arsenal striker, Nwankwo Kanu and erstwhile Super Eagles forward, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, were also listed in the top 100 players. The two players were ranked lower than Okocha.

Trial of Oba’s suspected kidnappers: Surgeon says wife sustained bullet wounds

A prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of four men charged with the kidnapping of a traditional ruler of Iba in Lagos State, Oba Goriola Oseni, on Friday told an Igbosere High Court that the monarch’s wife was shot thrice while abducting the ruler.

Dr Grace Eke, a consultant surgeon from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH) said this while testifying during Friday’s proceedings.

She said that the monarch’s wife, Olori Abosede Oseni, suffered four gunshot wounds from three bullets.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the traditional ruler was kidnapped at his palace at Iba on July 16, 2016.

Four men — Duba Furejo, Ododowo Isaiah, Reuben Anthony and Yerin Fresh — were arraigned on Oct. 24, 2016, on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

The police had said that the accused murdered a security guard, Sunday Okanlawon, a commercial motorcyclist, Joseph Okeke and also robbed the monarch’s wife of her mobile phone before shooting her several times.

The offences contravened Sections 233, 230, 299, 297 (2) (b) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Lagos State, 2015.

At the resumed trial of the case on Friday, Mr Jide Martins, an Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, introduced Eke as the sixth prosecution witness.

Eke said a team of surgeons and other doctors received the woman in the early hours of July 17, 2016, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.

“She was pale, restless and in shock. She lost a lot of blood from her wounds, her blood pressure was low and she was very drowsy.”

She also said that the wounds were likely caused by bullets and that two operations were carried out on her.

“The Olori would have died had the treatment not administered on time; also the surgeries saved her from `immediate death”.

Under cross-examination by counsel to the accused, Messers G. O. Egwuaroje and Anthony Onwueze, Eke confirmed that she had several gunshot wounds.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo adjourned continuation of trial to Feb. 28.

Ibori’s return’ll unite Delta politicians

By Gab Ejuwa

National Chairman of Abigborodo community in Delta State and secretary of Delta State Chapter of Niger Delta Youth Movement, NDYM, comprising youths of Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Isoko and Ndokwa extractions, Mr Monday Agbeyi, has stated that the return of former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, will strengthen the unity among politicians in the state.

Agbeyi, who spoke at Oghara, yesterday, said there was no way the name of Chief Ibori can be written off from state politics because, according to him, Ibori made impact in the development of Delta State and left his foot prints in the sands of time.

Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark and Chief James Ibori

“That is why his name is still being mentioned today. In the civil service, he employed half the number of civil servants serving in Delta State. He constructed roads, built hospitals, schools, health centres and others. On his arrival, the airport was filled with political gladiators across the state and beyond. We are very happy that our political leader is back safe and healthy.
“As a matter of fact, I have always believed that there is no one that has served as a governor that has a 100 percent clean record. Some of the things that put the former governor in the dungeon may be as a result of failure of some persons who served under him to keep proper records of projects executed and day to day running of the state. Some didn’t pass through due process and so on.
“I don’t believe he embezzled money as claimed by the prosecution following fake evidences presented by security agents over there,” he said.
As a matter of fact, he was not supposed to be jailed because it was a gang up against him.”
Asked if Ibori return will not alter the political permutations in the state, Agbeyi said, “I believe his coming will not alter the polity of Delta State but it will rather strengthen the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State. He should take his rightful position in the state. The history of the state will not be complete without mentioning the name of Ibori. He should call all aggrieved party members in the state and reconcile them for a stronger

Execution of Christians no longer acceptable, says Trump

By Anthony Ogbonna with Agency report

U.S President, Donald Trump has remained resolute in his hedge-hammer especially on the Islamist terrorists, saying the wanton execution of Christians in the world would no longer be tolerated.

President Trump who took to his twitter handle to state this also said that countries need strong borders because the terrorism happening in the world has made it a total mess.

President Donald Trump

Christians in the Middle-East have been executed in large numbers. We cannot allow this horror to continue!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) 29 January 2017
Our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW. Look what is happening all over Europe and, indeed, the world – a horrible mess!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) 29 January 2017
Recall that President Donald Trump tweeted his defense Sunday of his order temporarily banning immigration to the United States for refugees and some Muslim travelers — a controversial policy which has sparked international furor and two days of US protests.

“Our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW. Look what is happening all over Europe and, indeed, the world – a horrible mess!” Trump wrote.

US airports and other sites across the United States, including the White House, were expected to see a second wave of protests Sunday against Trump’s temporary immigration ban, which a federal judge partially blocked by ordering authorities not to deport detained refugees and other travelers.

The ruling also coincided with a wave of anger and concern abroad, including among US allies.

A second Trump tweet took aim at a favorite whipping boy, the New York Times, which has ramped up its political coverage and toughened its tone as his presidency got underway just over a week ago.

“Somebody with aptitude and conviction should buy the FAKE NEWS and failing @nytimes and either run it correctly or let it fold with dignity!

Vice President Osinbajo it is genocide not religious violence

By Dele Sobolwale

“It is a certain fact that not all Muslims are terrorists; but, it is equally certain and exceptionally painful that almost all terrorists are Muslims…”Abdel Rahman al-Rashad, General Manager, satellite station, AL-ARABIYA.

Very few people have been prosecuted for religious violence, but none has ever been brought to conclusion. Why are such cases never concluded?”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in a national newspaper, January 13, 2017.

Professor Osinbajo, SAN, as a prominent lawyer, teacher and now top politician asked the question: “why are such cases never concluded?” as if he does not know the answer. The answer had been partly and generally provided by the General Manager of a satellite station in the Middle East. World wide and in Nigeria, there is very little of what you can call “religious violence” left anywhere. What we have had since the rise of Al Queda and the attack on the World Trade Center in New York has been global terrorism and genocide systematically and relentlessly carried out by those claiming to be Muslims.

Granted, the attacks are sometimes carried out indiscriminately, even killing Muslims, as we have experienced with suicide bombers in Nigeria, but, there has never been and there is today no doubt regarding the religious affiliations of the terrorists. They, in almost all the cases, claim to be Muslims. By contrast, there is no single Christian terrorist group operating in the world or in Nigeria, targeting Muslims and avenging “insults” to Jesus Christ and committing multiple murders in his name.

That is why what is going on in Nigeria cannot be called religious violence. It is calculated genocide perpetrated by some Muslims against Christians – safe, in the knowledge that they would never be prosecuted or made to pay for their crimes. Let me illustrate the point on one-sidedness of the murders which removes them from the classification of religious violence.

For over three hundred years there was religious violence in Northern Ireland. It was between the Catholics and the Protestants and was brought to an end late in the last century. Horrible crimes were committed on both sides – all in the name of Jesus Christ. With both sides involved in the massacre and both suffering untold casualties, religious violence could be said to occur.

The war in Iraq which brought down Saddam Hussein also unleashed massive religious violence. Hussein, a Shi’ite, had used the military to suppress the Sunni majority. When the Americans conducted their exit election, the Sunnis won a majority of the seats and for the first time the President was one of them. The Shi’ites fearing reprisals went on the offensive; the Sunnis were also eager to avenge past wrongs. Bombs were flying in the two directions – casualties were also recorded in the give-and-take that continues till today. Religious violence can be said to occur.

Let us now turn to Nigeria and use two states as example. Akwa Ibom State is almost as totally Christian as Kano State is Muslim. There are Mosques in several of the major cities and towns – Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket, Ikot Abasi, Abak, Oron, just to name a few. To the best of my knowledge no single person had been murdered for being a Muslim; no Mosque had ever been burnt in the Southern State. Most likely, if any Christian openly murders another person because he “insulted Christ” or abused the Bible, not only will the assailant be fully prosecuted, his fellow citizens in that state would distance themselves from him. The Attorney-General of the State would not “advise” the Magistrate trying the case to discharge the accused. That is a typical Christian state. The same will be the case in Ebonyi or Cross River.

Then we move to Kano – because the travesty of justice there and official complicity in murder of a Christian is very fresh. Everybody is aware of the Christian woman who was gruesomely murdered by Muslims in her own shop because she had the “audacity” to ask them not to use the front of her shop for their preparations. The case was novel because it was the first time a Muslim state would even admit the constitutional right of a Christian to life as guaranteed by our constitution. But, the joys of those who thought that Kano State had joined the modern world were short-lived. Last month, the Magistrate trying the case acquitted the accused based on confidential advice by the State’s Attorney-General, certainly not a Commissioner of Justice. It was in the same state that an Igbo man, a Christian, was beheaded and the skull paraded for hours by his killers, with policemen looking unconcerned, in the name of Islam. Till today, nobody had been punished for it.

The answer to Osinbajo’s question, “why are such cases not concluded?” is very simple and true. The cases are not concluded because the terrorists are Northern Muslims and the victims of genocide are often Christians. It is instructive to note that a few days after the Kano court disgraced the judiciary with its ruling siding with terrorism, there was a mild conflict in Enugu state involving the usual terrorists called Herdsmen and people in a community. The initial rumours claimed that several of the terrorists were killed and their Mosques burnt. For the next few days, security agencies and the State government went to great lengths to discredit the story – especially the report of Mosques burnt. Only God knows how many churches had been burnt or bombed in Muslim states in the North without a word of sympathy from Governors and Muslim leaders.

I was in Sokoto in the early 1990s to see all the churches along Ahmadu Bello Way, in the state capital burnt by people claiming their religion is peaceful. Nobody offered help to re-build the churches. But, recently, a Northern Muslim state governor went in search of terrorists to compensate them for cows alleged to be lost; not to have them brought to justice for murders committed. He even later claimed the terrorists were not Nigerians!!! Mr VP, we know why the cases are never concluded. Some of the leaders of your party are responsible for shielding killers; and perhaps encouraging them for political advantage.

So far, in Nigeria, every violent conflict with any religious undertones had been caused by Muslims. The bloody clash between traditional worshippers in Sagamu was between Muslims and the other worshippers who had enjoyed a “live-and-let-live” relationship with Christians for years without violence.

I can bet Professor Osinbajo every kobo in my pocket that if a Christian openly murders a Fulani Muslim anywhere in the South, the case will be concluded. So, why must we continue with the self-deception? We know the perpetrators of religious genocide in Nigeria and why they are never convicted.

Official silence in such matters is not golden; amounts to loud consent!!!

PLEA FOR BANKERS IN TROUBLE OVER MRS JONATAN AND DIEZANI – 1

“I will make you an offer you can’t refuse.” Mafia Boss to shop owner, Boston, 1969.

His name was William, “Bill” Rice, a black American Korean War veteran, who had established a successful grocery store in Roxbury, Boston, attracting thousands of people a day. That success eventually brought him the attention of the Boston Mafia and a lot of pain. The Mafia wanted a share of the business in order to use it to launder illegal funds from all sorts of criminal activities. But, Bill was a devoted Baptist who lived as a law-abiding citizen. Accepting the initial Mafia offer would have made him an instant millionaire – but one now enmeshed in crime. He turned down the offer. But, the Mafia was just as determined. They doubled the initial offer. Still, Bill refused. Then, the Mafia Boss himself called on Bill and uttered those chilling words quoted above. The words always carry the same meaning. “Accept our generous offer or we will ruin your business; even kill you.” Even a stone-hearted man knows when it is useless to continue fighting. Bill gave in.
Anyone who had been following the revelations concerning millions of dollars of Nigerian money illegally deposited in various Nigerian banks and the possibility of the bankers being prosecuted for violations of several banking laws must pity the bankers. Like Bill, in Boston, forty-eight years ago, offers were made to them which they could not refuse without dire consequences for their banks and their careers.

When the wife of a President, in a Banana Republic, invites you, a banker, to run questionable errands for her, using your bank, it would be unwise and very dangerous to refuse. The Federal Government of Nigeria is the biggest customer, by far, any bank has. That by itself renders any offer from the Bedroom Cabinet of that power house impossible to refuse.

The bank’s licence can also be capriciously withdrawn or suspended without immediate appeal to any court in the land. Even when litigation is embarked upon, judgment takes a long time such that the bank, once closed, is closed for ever. A perfect example is Savannah Bank which was closed by the Central Bank of Nigeria when Soludo was Governor. Court judgment ordered Emefiele to return the licence; he promptly did. But the bank remains closed till today. Any attempt to open it will lead to a run by depositors. It is simply bad luck for a banker to be faced with losing its biggest client and its licence on account of an ethical and professional dilemma forced on him by circumstances beyond his control and by those in the corridors and bedrooms of power.

The case of the bankers involved with the alleged diversion of funds by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources is almost the same. Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is probably the second largest client of any bank in Nigeria. Every bank profits enormously from the relationship. By a simple stroke of the pen, the Minister can order all the Ministry’s deposits withdrawn from the bank and precipitate a liquidity crunch immediately. Furthermore, news that NNPC had withdrawn from the bank might be construed as lack of confidence by others and trigger a run on it. No banker can take that risk on behalf of his bank because no bank can survive the backlash of refusal to cooperate with what they knew were questionable transactions. They either went along or there would be no bank to manage anymore.

Furthermore, banking regulations require bankers to report illegal transactions to banking authorities – presumably for investigation and prosecution. But, what happens when the banking authorities are themselves controlled by the perpetrators of the infractions? Most likely there would have been no prosecution and the banker would be targeted for removal on trumped-up charges. Nobody wants to take that risk; nor should anybody be asked to do so. It is unfair.

The cases have not started, and I fervently pray they would not for the sake of the bankers – none of whom is known to me. But, they are young enough to be my nephews who would have acted the same way. Misfortune and former top government officials had placed all these young men in a situation where doing the right thing would have amounted to career and even personal suicide. It is not fair.

Director arrested for inserting electric heater into son’s anus for allegedly being gay

BY NDAHI MARAMA, Maiduguri

A Director of Planning in one of the juicy ministries in Borno State, (names withheld) has been arrested by the state Police Command for allegedly inserting electric heater into the anus of his 10-year old son over the allegation of engaging in homosexual activities.

The top civil servant was said to have perpetrated the act upon hearing that his son performed the act with some politicians.

While the boy, names withheld, had claimed to have been raped at their 1000 Government Housing Estate residence, the father was said to have dismissed his story leading to the inflicting of the bodily injuries. Saturday Vanguard learnt that the victim was chained before his father, who was accused of denying his children western education carried out the act.

The 10 year old victim whose father allegedly inserted hot electric heater into his anus for being gay

It was further gathered that the civil servant recently chained one of his daughters named Mama for insulting her stepmother in the estate.

A top government official, who pleaded anonymity, said the director had been arrested.
Efforts to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer of Borno State Command, Mr. Victor Isuku proved abortive.

However, some residents told Saturday Vanguard that the estate was recording growing rate of homosexual activities.

MMM: Mavrodians cry, curse, threaten founder

Nigerian participants called Mavrodians in the discredited ponzi scheme, MMM, are losing patience with it.

Their patience snapped a week after resumption of service and promise to begin payment.
Although there was evidence that some participants had been paid ,thousands of others whose applications were yet to be attended have been venting their anger on the brains behind the scheme for the frustration in accessing their funds.

They rage, curse and threaten unrestrained on the MMM Help platform after unsuccessful attempts to get response to their many inquiries on the status of their investment.

Youths protesting the postponement in Benin

Typical of the threat message is this seen yesterday on the MMM website: “Hello Mavrodi. You can’t eat my money and go like that.See, let me tell you Mavrodi:my father is a native doctor.I give you two weeks to pay my money or my father will kill you in that Russia.I’m ready to kill anybody including my guider and referral.Make una no play with me ooo…If you like joke with me.”

One Hayat Mohammed said: “I really need help. I provided help of 50,000, now I made a request to get help. The request was processed, but I’ve not being matched with another participant who will pay me. They won’t even pick my calls. So my money is lost, isn’t it? Last time I checked, this was supposed to be a platform where we would be able to tender our problems for solutions. I guess they don’t care anymore since participants have grown in population.”

Harrison Ita Etim posted: “I am still in the same shit too till today!”

Sergey Mavrodi of inventor MMM

Owhotemu Maryjane said: “What is really going on with MMM? If it’s gone you should let us the participants know. And why is that when someone wants to GH it will show or create error? You guys had a month to sort this out during the so-called break! So what then is this so called withdrawal limit that you are now talking about?”

From Santos Maemi came this: “To all Nigerians, please wake up. This is totally a scam. Don’t be blind!!!” while Christopher Chinedu said: “If I knew that this would happen, I shouldn’t have become a participant. Let’s admit we have lost our money. That is business I guess, lose or gain. Somebody has been matched with different people, four, to be precise and they have not paid him now, many days and months after. Hmmm so who is going to pay who? I think I have cried enough, it’s time for me to clean my eyes now and forget my N700,000. This is not my end.”

A cross section of participants interviewed in Ado Ekiti fear that their money is gone.
Tope Aladeniyi, who said he was to be paid a day before the scheme was shut down in December, said he learnt some people received little payments, but he was yet to be matched for payment.

“At the moment, I have not been matched, and last year we were told that once the scheme resumed on January 14, they would be the ones to release those who were ready to be matched, even if you were due for payment,” Aladeniyi said.

Another participant, Sola Abidakun, who provided help in November and asked for help on January 13, said he was matched with four persons but only two paid.

“I was only paid N4000 and N10,000, leaving two failed transactions waiting to be rematched,” he said.
A top guider of the scheme, Bode Wilson, while explaining the reason for delayed payment, said that the number of people requesting for payment was higher than the number providing help.

“They have started matching people, but there will be delay in payment, especially for those that pledged huge amount of money. There should be enough money in the system before everybody can get paid. However, I’m sure we will all get paid”, Wilson said.

A lawyer, Femi Oyeniyi, warned that participants in the scheme may not be able to recover any money lost in the scheme because of the anonymity the business is shrouded with.

Oyeniyi said: “who do you sue, you don’t see the person you are doing business with, you can only sue the person you see and it is only the person you see physically that you can do business with.”

A broadcaster,Carol Oladeinde, said: “I have a relation who did the MMM thing and was benefitting from it before they went off. I do not think that we should condemn the financial scheme (MMM) because a lot of people have benefited from it. I am into another networking stuff. I am a member of another one and it is working.

“Yes, I will continue with mine because I know what I am benefiting from it. I can’t go anywhere to borrow money so if I am involved in a financial scheme where I see someone give me indirect loan and even increase my opportunity to get more, why won’t I continue?

Martins Okafor, a participant investor in Awka still believes in the scheme.
He said that those who have not received any payment were those who have not been matched for payments, especially those invested shortly before the break.

Another investor, Miss Blessing Nwankwo, was also optimistic that her investment would not be lost.
She said she was willing to forfeit N10,000 of the N20,000 she invested, adding that she had no regrets whatsoever.

Mrs. Chiamaka Udu, a participant in Port Harcourt, said: “ We thank God that we are able to be alive to see today
.
“The last time when you came to my house to talk to me, I told you I was going to die, but I think there is hope. What is happening now is that those of us with big funds are not being paid now. They told us that we should wait; that after providing help for those with small amount they will consider us.”

Mr. Geoffrey Nnamdi said: “My brother, I ‘m yet to understand these people. Though they are paying some, when I clicked help they rejected my request, saying I should wait but I need this money.

Another customer, Mr. Davies Onyema reacted this way, “Please, I don’t want to say anything, I almost committed suicide last time. I was very happy when I heard the news of their coming back. I have entered forty days of praying and fasting over my condition with MMM. How can they return and tell me that they are not going to provide help to me, so when are they going to provide help?”

Mane scores as Senegal reach quarter-finals

Liverpool star Sadio Mane scored as Senegal defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in Franceville Thursday to become the first qualifiers for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

The Senegalese Teranga Lions burst out of the blocks in the southeastern Gabonese city to score twice within 13 minutes through Mane and Henri Saivet.

Senegal are assured of topping Group B, even if they lose their final match against struggling Algeria, and will tackle the Group A runners-up for a last-four place.

Tunisia look likeliest to join them in the knockout phase having recovered from a loss to Senegal four days ago to defeat Algeria 2-1 in the first half of a double-header.

When Senegal face Algeria in Franceville next Monday, Tunisia will meet Zimbabwe in the Gabonese capital, Libreville.

Senegal have six points from two matches, Tunisia three and Algeria and Zimbabwe one each going into the final round.

Teranga Lions coach Aliou Cisse made one change to the line-up that started a 2-0 first-round win over Tunisia, preferring Saivet to Pape Ndiaye in midfield.

It proved a master stroke by the 2002 World Cup star as Saivet played a prominent role in the opening goal before doubling the lead himself.

Red lights were flashing for Zimbabwe almost from the kick-off with Senegal going close to scoring twice within six minutes.

They did surge into the lead on nine minutes as a superb Saivet pass set up Keita Balde to cross and unchallenged Mane tapped in at the far post.

When Onismor Bhasera fouled Balde soon after just outside the box, Saivet curled the free-kick over the defensive wall and past goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva.

A rout was in prospect as Senegal toyed at times with Zimbabwe, effortlessly passing the ball among themselves as if at a training session.

But the west Africans did not increase their goal tally before-half-time and Zimbabwe had a chance to halve the deficit.

Khama Billiat, runner-up to Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango in the 2016 Africa-based Footballer of the Year poll, got past Kara Mbodj only to have a weak shot easily saved.
Rattled Zimbabwe opted for a more physical approach in the second half, introducing South Africa-based attackers Evans Rusike and Tendai Ndoro.

Mane had two chances in quick succession to double his goal tally on the night, but the first attempt was blocked by Mkuruva and the second headed away by Costa Nhamoinesu.

UNILAG: 2 female graduates with 5.0 CGPA reveal secret of success

By Dayo Adesulu

When Ayodele Daniel Dada, in 2016 broke UNILAG academic records as the best graduating student ever with the Cumulative Grade Point Average CGPA 5.0, little did he know that he was indirectly setting an academic standard for those coming behind, as Taiwo Bankole and Oyindamola Omotuyi have matched his academic feat of CGPA 5.0 in 2017.

Apparently, with the feat of Miss Taiwo Bankole, 21 and Miss Oyindamola Omotuyi 22, the saying that what a man can do, a woman can do better is confirmed. What 5.0 CGPA portends is that these graduates made the A grade in all their courses throughout their stay in the university.

While Omotuyi studied System Engineering at the University of Lagos, Bankole on her part, studied Cell Biology and Genetics in the same institution. Incidentally, the duo are both fellowship members at the Redeemed Christian Church of God on campus. Bankole who is second in the family of six, hailed from Ipaja, Lagos State, just as Omotuyi, from Ondo, in Ondo State is the first daughter among three girls.

Speaking to Vanguard yesterday, Omotuyi who said she drew inspiration for reading from her father said: ‘’My father, an engineer reads all night and I tried to emulate him.”
Relating how she came about her first class, Omotuyi disclosed that she was not born a genius, but worked hard for it.

Not born a genius

According to her: ‘’While in primary one, I took 11th position in my class and in UNILAG, I had two bad results. A day before the exam of a particular course, I saw my test result where I scored 9/30. Before the test, I had read very well, yet, I got 9/30. When I saw it, I was downcast. I asked God what was going on and I cried. That was in 200 level. However, I didn’t let it stop me because I don’t believe in falling and not rising again. After crying, I met people to brush me up on the course to know what the lecturer really wants and the exam turned out beautifully later.

“In another course, I had 5/40 in the test and the highest in the class was 10/40, however, at the end, I scored 70 per cent.”

She encouraged students to do the needful, adding that getting admission was not particularly hard, if every student did his or her own part. She also pointed out that after school lessons helped her when she was in the secondary school. ‘’That was how I had 315 in JAMB and 76 in post-UME, ‘’ she said.

Taiwo Bankole and Oyindamola Omotuyi

Speaking on the secret of her academic performance, Omotuyi pointed out hardwork among others as the key.

She said: ‘’I read a lot with my classmates, I enjoy learning from everybody irrespective of the level. I am more interested in the knowledge I will get and not CGPA. This is because of the family I come from; my daddy was a scholar who got a scholarship to study in Russia. He is a very strict person in terms of reading. Even at old age, he still reads till day break. I learnt the discipline from him and applied it in school.”

Asked if she has any reading technique, the scholar said she did not have specific hours spent on reading, neither did she has any reading technique. ‘’At every point, I depended on the wisdom from the Lord to do things better. I realised that when I obeyed, it worked.

“Thus, the exceptional thing is that I followed the directions that God gave me. I really did not just go to the library to read, I went to my seniors and asked what the lecturer of a course really wants students to focus on. I wasn’t so concerned about writing what I feel, but what the lecturer wants to see. I remember once in the exam hall, the Lord told me to write what the lecturer wants to see not just want you want to write.

‘’ I see lecturers as humans, and they are the ones marking the script, they have feelings and they know what they want to see because of what they have deposited in you, so they don’t want to see just anything; they know what they are looking for. That is the mindset with which I face my courses and exams. Write what lecturers want to see, not what you feel you know.’’

On her social life, Omotuyi said that her social life was spent with her friends and church members. She, however disclosed that she sometimes attended birthday meetings and went to watch movies.

‘’I never had a boyfriend. I understand what school relationships really are and I don’t do things because everyone does it, I have where I am going to. It is not that I wasn’t approached by boys, but there is a right time for everything,’’ she said.

On her future, she said: ‘’I am waiting for my NYSC’, but if the lord will have me do a master’s degree, sure. My course of study is really broad just that on BSc, it looks small. I am looking at furthering in computer vision, artificial intelligence and programming because I have interest in programming, mathematics and hardware.

Her words for students: ‘’For those still in the system; it is very beautiful to have a good result, everybody can do it, irrespective of what has happened before. Some persons did not have a good secondary school or probably a bad result; they should never let that stop them.

‘’I really didn’t have a good primary school result. When I got to secondary school, I was discouraged because I met a lot of people that came from very big schools and they were very good. I felt I couldn’t do anything to beat them, that I was a dull student in the class; that was in Jss1. I didn’t like relating, just stayed on my own. A teacher noticed me and brought me to the front of the class, then I started responding, started picking up.

Meanwhile,, Taiwo Bankole on her part noted that all was not rosy before she gained admission into UNILAG, She disclosed that though she had her WAEC and NECO at one sitting, she took UTME and failed. ‘’I ended up entering school with direct entry by doing diploma in UNILAG.’’

According to her, graduating with first class was not her target. Relating her experience, she said: ‘’When I did diploma, my CGPA started from zero in my 200 level. In my degree, when my CGPA rose to 5.0, I decided to maintain it by reading for six hours everyday. I keep my studies interesting and simple. I use the library, I read in my room, I listen attentively in class, and I trust God for success.’’

Reading for six hours everyday

Bankole disclosed that through her focus and constant reading, from 200 level her CGPA started rising and she determined to have an A in each course of the total course units of 102.

On her future plans, Bankole said: ‘’After my NYSC, I will do my Masters in genetics because I love the course.

For social life, she said: ‘’I go out with my friends, watch movies and go to church. I don’t have a boyfriend. Asked the reasons, she simply said: ‘’This is because I came to face my books and not relationships. When the time is right, God will provide the right person for me.’’

She urged students to be hardworking and never to loose focus.
“Be hardworking, determined and diligent in all your endeavours. Trust in God in everything you do to overcome challenges. I have no regrets.

4 injured as herdsmen, farmers clash in Anambra

By Nwabueze Okonkwo & Chinedu Adonu

ONITSHA —NO fewer than four persons were, yesterday, hospitalized following injuries they sustained when some Fulani herdsmen and farmers clashed in a farmland at Okoti-Odekpe community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

This came as some communities in Nimbo, Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State donated over 350 hectares of land to enable the African Nations Development Programme, ANDP, build a home for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the area.

According to the source, the clash started at about 10 a.m. when the herdsmen invaded the farmland with their cattle and destroyed a large farmland which resulted in a clash as a farmer from Okoti-Odekpe and three herdsmen were injured.

Eyewitnesses told newsmen that it was the herdsmen that first launched the attack against the farmers with cutlasses and injured one Dubem Ononuju. This led the farmers to launch a reprisal attack and they injured three herdsmen.

Armed Fulani-herdsmen

The incident attracted the attention of soldiers, navy and policemen, who rushed to the scene and rescued the herdsmen from the youths of the community and took the injured to a nearby hospital.

Confirming the incident, the Police Area Commander for Onitsha, Yahaya Abubakar, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said some arrests were made.

Communities donate 350 hectares of land for IDPs

Under the African Nations Development Programme in Nimbo, the agency is to build 5,000 housing units for displaced persons in the area, following the attack on them by some Fulani herdsmen April last year, which left over 40 persons dead and several families displaced.

Sources told Vanguard that “after the attack by herdsmen on Nimbo, the ANDP came up with a programme to rehabilitate the IDPs. They are building 5,000 housing units for displaced persons, a secondary school, a university, hospital and a shopping mall.”

A statement signed by the President General of Nimbo Town Union, Chief Christian Nwodi, stated that the 350 hectares of land were donated freely, adding that the promises made by ANDP to build the social amenities for displaced people in the area formed the basis for the donation of the land.

Anxiety as MMM again removes GH of Mavrodians

Over 92 hours since the ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mundial Moneybox, MMM, announced its return and unfreezing of Mavros after a month’s freezing of access to requesting financial help (GH), it has again begun removing the Get Help (GH) access of some of the participants, otherwise called Mavrodians. The reason given is that the measure is to ensure a balance between Get Help (GH) and Provide help (PH).

Although a few participants have claimed they had been paired with who would pay them their returns, otherwise known as Provide Help (PH), no one has been paid so far.

Many have even begun lamenting the inability to get help despite the scheme’s announcement that the Mavros had been unfrozen.

However, more anxiety have begun looming as most of the participants woke up today again to discover that their request for help have been removed, a situation that has further heightened the fears of the ponzi scheme really coming back to normal.

Some of the participants, in a WhatsApp group have these complaints:
One participant with the name, Abisoye said, “Have gh since Friday but yet to be match.”
Another, Fola said, “I was merged ystd but not yet paid.”

Another, Chinwenwe said, ” And I can’t see my Gh money in the dashboard. Have refresh it severally, am not seeing it.”

Another participant, perhaps, a promoter, known as Guider, said, “I refused to sleep last night. I was able to GH for almost all my downliners.”

Other promoters of the scheme wrote to allay the fears of the participants, saying the removal of the GH is a further measure taken to moderate those requesting for help and hence, have a balance between (GH) and (PH).

One of them, Olaarowolo wrote, “Please be informed that some GH are temporary removed because measures to ensure that there are balances between PH-GH, GH-PH. Please do not panic. As matched orders are cleared, relief with spread. Thank you.”

Another promoter, Prince_Demilade, wrote, ” pls do not panic U may have observed that you cannot find your GH order in your dashboard as well as d introduction of letters to the catcha on logging. This is just evidence of work going on on d new model…
Your money is not lost and u can still see it in your mavro as pending withdrawals.. BE INFORMED.”

“Good morning Mavrodians, I have been receiving complaints regarding GH request no longer on MMM Dashboard and GH amount exceeds allowed daily maximum limit when GH button is clicked.”

“Like i said earlier the new model has been introduced and programmers are working relentlessly on the website to make sure everything is working perfect so we should play our own role by exercising patient and wait for the programmers to finish what they have started.”

“Please do not panic if you experience any changes and please do not cancel any processed GH or PH to avoid your account being placed on moratorium.Your money is still intact and in safe hands. Long live MMM Nigeria!”

And yet, another promoter gave the following reasons for the removal of the GHs. In what he titled, “Why Your Get Help (GH) Orders Were Removed, ” he explained thus:
“Many participants woke up this morning to see that their Get Help (GH) orders have been removed completely from their PO’s Dashboard. Though some people called it canceled but the truth of the matter is that it was only removed not canceled. Please note that the GH orders were not cancelled because if cancelled, you will see it at the right hand side as deleted.”

“It was removed because of the following reasons: There is an ongoing upgrade because programmers are always working on the MMM system every day so the promised New Model can be unveiled as soon as possible. You might notice earlier this morning, the login Captcha was showing alphanumeric as against the numbers until it restored to numbers later today.”

“Why is the upgrade taking so long? Why not shut down the website and finish the upgrade once and for all? Have you thought of the unprecedented panic it will cause if MMM Nigeria Personal Office website is shut down for 1hour? Again, www.mmmoffice.com is not only for Nigeria, it is being used by MMM in other countries too.”

“Moreso, many participants have formed the habit of cancelling their GH orders and creating new GH orders hoping they will be matched earlier. There is no need for that anyway but to forestall that, the created GH orders were removed and that is why you can’t create new GH orders because the old GH orders have not been cancelled but removed and withdrawal is still pending.”

“There is no cause for any alarm over the removed GH orders, if you check your Mavro, you will notice the value of the removed GH order has been restored and had also increased though it is still showing pending withdrawal.”

“Incase you missed these tweets from @MMMNigeriaHelp earlier: There have been reports of “removed GH orders” in some POs. The removed GH orders are mostly GH orders created on Friday/Saturday.”

1. “There is no cause for any alarm. The value of the removed GH order has been restored and increased though showing pending withdrawal.”
2. “
3. The removal of the GH orders and other changes/errors you might notice are indications that the #NewModel is taking shape gradually.”
4.
5. “Tuesday (Mavro growing day), a lot of participants created GH orders thus the message “GH amount exceeds allowed daily maximum”.
6.
7. “Please await further instructions either to create a new GH order or if it will be automatically restored and matched. We crave your indulgence, patience & understanding at this period. We are doing our best to have these issues/upgrades resolved ASAP.”
“Let’s be patient while the Administrators of MMM do their best to restore the confidence we have in the system,” he wrote.

A father’s story

Narrating his ordeal to reporters at the Benue State Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, Makurdi, where the girl is still unconscious, her father said his daughter was abducted by a gang led by one Torkula.

He said: “On Thursday, January 5, 2017 at about 11a.m., my daughter, an SS2 student, went to a nearby market to buy zips to make a neighbour’s cloth, but did not return.

“We did not see her till nightfall and then decided to search in homes of some of her friends and classmates, but could not find her. I then lodged a complaint at the Police Station in Katsina-Ala, where I was also advised to also put up an announcement on a local radio station located in Katsina-Ala, which I did.

“The whole family resorted to prayers as I consulted my pastor, who told me that he saw a vision of my missing daughter in the midst of cultists, even as he assured me that she would be found soon.

“I later got a call from a church member, saying that she saw my daughter on a motorcycle with two men, who covered her mouth as she attempted to speak to her. According to her, they were heading for the riverside.”

He said he immediately proceeded to the riverside in company of a motorcyclist, “On getting there,” he said, “I saw many cultists smoking hemp and one of them approached me, asking what I was looking for.

“Few minutes later, I saw one Torkula dragging my daughter and she looked heavily drugged and almost unconscious. The motorcyclist held onto Torkula as he attempted to run, while the others escaped.

“My daughter managed to speak and told me that they gave her four injections of an unknown substance, that they took her from one Ucha’s house to the home of another member, where they stripped her naked.

“She said they later took her to Torkula’s mother’s beer parlour, where she was forced to drink a drugged beer. She also told me that they starved her for two days and only gave her drugs.”

Medical report

Meanwhile, a medical report from Nguher Clinic in Katsina-Ala, where the victim was earlier admitted before being transferred to the Benue State Teaching Hospital, made available to reporters, indicated that she was induced with a substance and was sexually assaulted.

Vanguard further gathered that the victim’s father has relocated his entire family from Katsina-Ala to an unknown destination, following threats from the members of the gang and their families.

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, said a suspect had been arrested, while other fleeing members of the gang were being trailed.

I accepted because he proposed in public- Sarah Ofili

Sarah Ofili, the former fiancee of rapper Ikechukwu has revealed that she accepted the proposal because it was in public.
She also reacted to the recent allegations by the rapper that she was cheating on him with his friend, Terry the Rapman.

Ikechukwu and Sarah when the going was good

Ikechukwu had said, “Perfect example, you wanted the limelight. You have Killz (Ikechukwu)… (taking) you everywhere like on a mantlepiece, carrying her everywhere like, ‘you must build this profile, you must give this girl name…then you free that and then you went to go f*ck with Terry, what the f*ck does he have?”

Miss Ofili took her chance to fire back at Killz this weekend when she was on Happenings Radio to talk about broken engagements.

According to her, she was deliberately put in a situation where she couldn’t say no by Ikechukwu when he proposed to her.

“I accepted his proposal because of pressure…he proposed in public because he knew if he had done it in private, it was likely I would have said no. I wish I said no but poo happens… I broke off the engagement because he was a pathological liar…

He’s old but he still hasn’t grown up. If he’s still thinking about his ex after four years, I pity the girl he’s currently dating,” she said.

37 dead as Turkish plane crashes in Kyrgyzstan

At least 37 people were killed when a Turkish cargo plane crashed into a village in Kyrgyzstan, according to a statement from Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.

“The number of victims is increasing quickly,” Elira Sharipova, a spokeswoman for Kyrgyzstan’s Emergency Ministry told CNN. “The fire service, rescue services, ministry of internal affairs and the prime minister and emergencies minister are there.”

In one image, the plane’s smoldering fuselage could be seen jutting out of the snow and the remnants of destroyed buildings.

The airplane was heading to Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishek.

The plane crashed at 7:18 a.m. local time about two kilometers (1.2 miles) away from the airport, according to Kyrgyztan’s state-run Kabar Agency.

Poor visibility was likely a factor, Kubatbek Boronov, the minister of Emergency Situations, told Kabar.

At least eight people — including children — were hospitalized, Kabar reported.
Fifteen homes were destroyed, according to Sharipova.

It’s not clear how many people were on board, but the freighter had seating for 10 — including two pilots, two observers and six additional passengers, according to a description on the airline’s website.

The Boeing 747 was headed from Hong Kong to Kyrgyzstan’s capital of Bishek, according to data from the tracking website FlightRadar24.
